The Tournament
The tournament will be played in six sections:
The Improvers' section is not ECF graded and is designed for less experienced juniors, who may have only played in one or two tournaments, or even none at all, to gain experience among other children of a similar level.
All sections are rapidplay, with 25 minutes on the clock with no increment.
- ECF graded open U18 section for experienced juniors up to the age of 18, with no maximum grade (ECF graded)
- ECF graded U12 LJCC qualifying section for those under 12 on 31st August 2019 (year 7 and below) (ECF graded)
- ECF graded U10 LJCC qualifying section for those under 10 on 31st August 2019 (year 5 and below) (ECF graded)
- ECF graded U8 LJCC qualifying section for those under 8 on 31st August 2019 (year 3 and below) (ECF graded)
- Improvers' section for those under 18 on 31st August 2019 and under 80 ECF grade (ungraded)
- Beginners' section for those under 9 on 31st August 2019 (year 4 and below), who have no ECF grade and playing in their first few tournaments (ungraded)
- Please note that if numbers in sections are too low, sections may be merged. All qualifying LJCC sections will remain valid for LJCC qualification.

LJCC Qualification |
The Training |
The qualification score for the Under 10 Minor Final and Under 12 Minor Final is 3½ or 4 out of 6.
The qualification score for the Under 10 Major Final and Under 12 Major Final is 4½ or more out of 6. An Under 8 player scoring at least 3½ in the Under 8 or Under 10 sections automatically also qualifies for the Under 8 final. |
Training will be provided in a separate training room by an experienced chess coach from half past each hour until 5 minutes before the start of the round. The format is fun, interactive and will be at a level suitable for the children in attendance.
It's not compulsory to attend the training, but this is a fantastic opportunity for your child to get immersed in chess for the day - lots of parents report great improvements in their children's playing ability after these sessions and they're great fun too! |

In the event that only one player has a 4th event score, that player will be deemed the winner. In the event that the 4th score is also tied, 1st and 2nd place prizes will be combined and split equally. If there are more than two players in joint first position for the Grand Prix prize after tie-break has been applied, all prizes will be combined and split equally.
